Days Of Future Passed - Original Mix
The condition of the original stereo DOFP tape is a point of contention. Since a few cuts were used for the TT box set, one assumes that. Yet, I had the chance, recently, to ask Tony Clarke about it(at Mike Pinder's site), and he said engineer Derek Varnals went back and remixed the album because the original tape was in such poor condition. Didn't ask, but I will guess the Quad mix was done first(it lacks certain overdubs, though at least one song runs longer than it did originally), which also can't be heard on the stereo remix, which is the source that's been used for US vinyl since the late '70s and for the DOFP CD reissues.
Can't believe, even if the original tape were in bad shape, that a copy doesn't exist somewhere...and I still find it strange that that ONE album was remixed....almost as if somewhere along the line, someone(s) became unhappy with it and wanted it remixed. I asked Justin Hayward via e-mail on his website about it, but he never responded(as I expected), answering instead the usual insipid tripe fans always ask.
And of course so many overdubs for LOST CHORD were not available it was the only album of the "original 7' that wasn't mixed to Quad in the '70s, and if multi-channel editions of the others do hit the streets, that one is certain to be stereo-only.

When remixing vintage tapes, imagine you are back in the time those recordings were made, and mix accordingly. forget Today's Sound Sensibilities....
