Why do I bother?

Just what the name says.

Ah, good old Sean O'Berry. What a mischevious scamp.

Actually, I hadn't posted in that thread, though David Modny did. I did just put in a kind word, though.

What kind of name is Modny? It's sounds like some kind of orthopedic device.

In an effort to achieve Senior Status, you promised *quality* posts a while back, Mike. Making fun of a strange name like "Modny" hardly qualifies.

I had my fingers crossed behind my back.

You're right though. Afterall, I get jokes about my name all the time. I might even have to change it to Modny...if he'll let me.

What jokes do you get about your name? Oh. And I'm not amused about the "fingers crossed" bit. Senior Status, sadly, would appear to be beyond your grasp.

Both in the ceiling where you left them.

I'm glad he couldn't resist. His replies were accurate and polite, whereas I could not have promised to be the latter replying to idiocies about information capture, like those posted for the gazillionth time, by the like of Markus.

Now, whether he educated anyone there is debatable. Witness, for example, Gort Bob Lovely's heel-digging, fact-ignoring, point-ignoring reply, which boiled down to "I DON'T CARE ABOUT SCIENCE AND DATA, ANALOG IS MORE EMOTIONAL AND IT"S THE PURELY HUMAN WAY TO GO!" Which , like so much audiopphile cant, is a claim back-loaded with mulish assumptions. THomH's reply to that neatly addressed its central fallacy.

It's as if the analog faithful reflexively have to reassert their credo whenever they feel threatened; maybe it comforts them. Either that, or Gorts have to reassert the 'analog' line whenever they feel the 'balance' might be shifting.

Hoffman weighs in with this gem of strawman misrepresentation:

"I'm glad this thread has veered away from the objectivist vs. subjectivist theme, where one person is constantly telling the other "Your ears can't tell you the truth, only numbers can." That brings no joy in Mudville."

which, of course, bears little resemblance to what 'objectivists' *ACTUALLY* say, i.e., 'your ears, and *only* your ears, can tell you if *you* hear a difference or not' . Measurments can give you an idea beforehand of whether you are likely to hear a difference, or they can give an explanaiton afterwards for why you *did* hear a difference. But the proper verification of whether you DO hear a difference needn't involve measurements AT ALL. It involves bias-controlled comparison.

Someone spank Mr. Hoffman again, please. He shouldn't be allowed to get away with that sort of crap.

I thought the latest subject of debate had something to do with UD vs. UD2, referenced by Xenu above.
