Appetite for Destruction is 1987, no?
Chuck thinks that I look to good to be a computer geek. I think that I know too much about interface design, css, xhtml, php, asp, perl, and ia (too name a few things) to not be one.

Also, The Black Album was at least slated for release in '87. Then released for real in '94, as I'm sure you know.

Yeah, I went with 1988 just because the P&J pollsters went with that year, too. Was it really slated for 1987? I figured Warner would've delayed it, just to keep him to one major release a year.

I went by a timeline on prince.org, and they said "late 1987." And I do have clear memories of the breathless chatter that was circulating late that fall about "this really dirty Prince album that he won't release!!" Ah, heady times.

The idea that Warner might have wanted to bump the Black Album into '88 reminded me of this weird little bit of autonomy Prince had in his contract with them: Post-Purple Rain, he had the right to pick the second single from each of his LPs, resulting in such not-quite-surefire chart-topping follow-ups as "Mountains," "If I Was Your Girlfriend," and "Glam Slam." Further proof that you never let the artist pick the single.

I'm sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyway, is the "Black Album" out of print or you can still snag the '94 issue?

OOP but I've seen used copies of the '94 issue on Amazon, ebay, and even big chain stores that offer used CD's. It tops out around $20 new, but I've seen some go for $10, even $8 (not mint, but not terrible condition, either), not bad since it retailed for $15 or so.
