Our main classic rock station here in Cleveland is doing something similiar to this. I know that they are in the middle of their countdown. Don't know if it's tied into this at all or not. They were on 1971 today. Don't know if that was their #1 pick or not.

Billy Idol didn't lose his virginity until 1986?

What a poser!

Pet Sounds, Blonde on Blonde, Revolver, Aftermath, Face to Face, Love's first two LPs, "19th Nervous Breakdown," "Talk Talk," "Substitute," "Eight Miles High," "When a Man Loves a Woman," "Wild Thing," "Walk Away Renee," "Mustang Sally," "96 Tears," Yardbirds/Zombies/Rascals/Spoonful/Hollies/Small Faces all at their peak, reggae starts to invade England, Motown at full strength, Stax/Volt at full strength, garage bands at full strength, Dylan and the Hawks take on Europe, debuts from Hendrix, Zappa, and Beefheart, etc., etc., etc.....

Really, how does one top 1966?

Are you sure that wasn't 1967?

Hey Joe was released in 1966, I believe.

Yup -- Polydor 56139, b/w "Stone Free," released 16 December 1966.

Prog Sound

Postby balthazar » Mon Mar 28, 2005 12:40 pm

*Fuck* King Crimson, ELP and the rest of that UK prog art shit.

I started thinking about this remark, and realized I should have said something sooner.

I happen to like ELP, but I find King Crimson a little much to handle. However, examining some other prog rock bands, including Genesis, Yes, the Alan Parsons Project, and maybe even Pink Floyd, I find some similarities to some of the material produced by the Who. For a long time I've thought Who's Next has a remarkably progressive sound, and I've held that opinion almost ever since I was able to listen to it from start to finish.

In case it wasn't abundantly clear, that was my take at sarcasm.

Apparently it wasn't. Perhaps my brain was not properly engaged.

I feel dumb now.
