Dylan reissues on CD?

Postby lukpac » Tue Apr 20, 2004 9:37 pm

From MusicTap:

Some Bob Dylan news for you. Some of those SACD issues that arrived last year will be issued as standard CDs. The listing of titles are as follows:

* Blonde on Blonde
* The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
* Bringing It All Back Home
* Another Side of Bob Dylan
* John Wesley Harding
* Highway 61 Revisited
* Nashville Skyline
* Blood on the Tracks
* Desire
* Slow Train Coming
* Planet Waves
* Infidels
* Oh Mercy
* Street Legal

You can pick these up on June 1 should you need them.

Huh?

Yeah, I saw that on the ICE board. There hasn't been a whole lot of new titles coming from Sony lately (I don't think anything high-profile, if at all, this year) -- SACD is starting to give off the smell of death.

In another bad omen, Universal has pushed the Steely Dan and Allman Brothers SACDs back to "Coming Soon" status. (They had real release dates before.)

On the plus side, I'll love to see the howls from the digipack-haters if they issue the CDs in jewel cases...

The Sony SACD site looks very dead. News of the Dylan titles "this fall" as well as a Heart album from a year ago.

Oops - looks like there's another Sony SACD site, that one just as dead.

I haven't seen the new Dylan discs for myself yet, but word is that they're indeed CDs in jewel cases.

Plus, the Clapton discs are completely gone from the Universal coming-soon site linked above. (The Allmans discs are still there for 7/13.)

A poster on ICE mentions a note on alkooper.com (I heard about it from my hairdresser's brother's roommates' Asian houseboy) -- his Super Session and [/i]Child Is Father To The Man[/i] SACDs are apparently being held up due to the publishing company wanting triple royalties -- one for each version on the disc (CD stereo, SACD stereo, SACD surround). Perhaps this is the reason the Dylan hybrids got swapped out for CDs and nothing new is coming out from Sony?

To quote:

Second off, the 5.1 SACD Surround Sound versions of SUPER SESSION and CHILD IS FATHER TO THE MAN are completed and ready for release. There are many difficulties in the world of Surround nowadays. The latest is thus:
SONY wants to release a hybrid disc with a:
1) two track remastered stereo version plus a
2) two track remastered SACD stereo version plus
3) a 5.1 SACD Surround Sound version.

Music publishers are balking about this and demanding to be paid three times the normal royalties because of the three “versions” This has put our babies on hold until all this greediness gets sorted out. Its COMPLETELY out of my hands when these masters will be released. When I know for sure, I will post that info up here ASAP. Soooo, no need to ask about that anymore, okay ?

Hmm...SACD not quite dead yet?

Sony Music Releases SACDs by Incubus, Indigo Girls & David Sanchez

All are hybrid CD/SACD/stereo/MCH.
