I thought the same thing. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.

I can't imagine they'd use the Leeds version -- that's way too "loose" to be any fun in RB.

The only thing I can think of is they somehow end it right after the proper "My Generation" section. I'm trying to think - that segues right into "Listening To You", right? Perhaps they would use those two.

I guess we'll see.

Then there's the speculation about a Beatles edition of Guitar Hero.....

And still no Paint It, Black extraction yet. Anyone found one?

Have people done those for Guitar Hero?

Now that Guitar Hero is going to the full-band model in their next game, we'll have two sources for these things.

ROCK BAND™ TAKES FANS AND GAMERS ON AN AMAZING JOURNEY

There have been several important dates in the history of The Who: May 23, 1969 – Iconic rock album Tommy is released and rockets to No. 4 on the U.S. charts. May 31, 1976 – The Who’s second concert at Charlton football ground earns them an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the “world’s loudest rock band.” July 13, 1985 – The Who re-form to perform at Live Aid and whip Wembley Stadium into an absolute frenzy.

Now July 15, 2008 joins these dates as a dozen classic songs by The Who get new life as Rock Band™ game play. MTV Games and Harmonix announced today that even more of the legendary group's greatest hits will be added to the Rock Band catalog of downloadable content with the release of “The Best of The Who Rock Band Edition.”

“We’re really pleased to have our songs featured in Rock Band,” says Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who. “It allows our established fan base to interact with our music in a way that’s fresh and exciting, while also exposing our songs to new audiences.”

“I’m a fan of Rock Band,” says Who guitarist Pete Townshend. “I play the game with my son and girlfriend and love the way it brings different generations together through music. I like the idea that people of all ages will be having fun playing our songs.”

“The Who is consistently one of our most requested bands" says Paul DeGooyer, SVP Electronic Games and Music, MTV, "and it is great to be able to bring this unique compilation of their music to the Rock Band community.”

The 12 songs were selected by Harmonix and MTV Games after consulting with Townshend and Daltrey, who helped curate the track list. The downloadable tracks represent the meaty, beaty, big and bouncy best of The Who, including classics such as “Amazing Journey,”“Baba O'Riley,” “Sea & Sand,” three songs from the classic Live At Leeds album (including a special edited version of “My Generation”) and more.

Each track will be available for $1.99 per track (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) or $19.99 (1600 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for the entire collection of tracks.

The release of “The Best of The Who Rock Band Edition” coincides with the upcoming “VH1 Rock Honors” celebration honoring the legendary rock band. Premiering on Thursday, July 17 at 9pm on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD, the show will celebrate The Who’s monumental legacy with a 2 hour tribute saluting the music and the lasting impact of this groundbreaking band. The influence of The Who will be felt through spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by some of today’s premiere rock acts as well as the legends themselves. The night will feature tribute performances by Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Flaming Lips and Incubus as well as an electrifying grand finale performance from The Who.

Interesting that they *did* include Baba. I wonder how they mixed that. Ditto for Leaving Here.

Good call on the MyGen edit. Damn, that's a fast version of My Generation, that'll be fun.

Overall, I'm pumped. Amazing Journey should be incredible. "Sea and Sand"? Oh, boy! (It would have been nice to attempt the bass line in "Real Me," but you can't have everything.)

Eminence Front sounds pretty boring for all parts, though, except for the opening guitar solo.

Hmm...listening now, and Listening To You goes right into the Naked Eye jam. They could pretty cleanly end it after that (next up is the Amazing Journey jam after a little pause).

Although I suppose it's more likely they'll have some sort of mash-up.

From O&S:

The Who pack for Rock Band is predictably awesome. It's a very
interesting collection of tracks (very much like a best-of I'd create
myself). The sound quality is really good and it's great to hear the
songs in surround sound. Naturally, the mixes are all new and vary
depending on what instrument you play. There are a couple of
interesting additions. BBE has the electric guitar part continue
through the end of the song. Sea and Sand continues a few measures
after the fadeout on the album and has a hard ending. There are a few
minor issues. My Generation is edited from LAL and has an awkward jump
cut (just before the See Me Feel Me part to the end jam). At least some
jamming is included. Apparently no bad words are allowed. Real Good
Looking Boy is censored and the "Who the hell are you" single mix of WAY
is used (I miss that last verse!). Anyway, it's a really nice
collection. It was hinted that this would be the first of several
releases, so we may see full albums for sale sometime soon.

I'll agree with that O&S quote. Here's the My Generation edit:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-_xHh10norA

They did a pretty good job of making it fun to play, though it's nothing I'd want to listen to.

It's a bummer WAY is the single "hell" mix, because it's a blast to play and I want the last verse. The acoustic guitar break on Expert is hard as fuck^H^H^H^Hhell:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=IKq_U2DPZFM

Sea and Sand is lots of fun -- I want more Quad songs. The Live at Leeds songs are intense on guitar. Baba O'Riley, on the other hand is pretty easy (and of course, you don't do *anything* for about two minutes on guitar).

Eminence Front turned out to be a handful. All those little fiddly bits are tricky:

Wow, that's a crazy My Generation edit. Sounds like they did preserve the edit near the end as well.

Where did the synth go during the break for WAY? Or piano for that matter? Sounds like a totally new creation.

I see Amazing Journey doesn't include the instrumental portion or Sparks. That sucks.

WTF?! That's the normal version of Leaving Here, *not* the alternate from the Deluxe Edition? They got the multi for that? Or are they employing some type of DES or something?

MOGGS please.

Yeah, I was bummed when Amazing Journey didn't include Sparks. That stinks.

I think the various keyboards are still there in WAY, just mixed way down since no one will be playing them.

I did come across this:

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showpost ... stcount=13

There are audio issues with this song, because there were not separate instrument masters to work with. They had to manually separate instrument sounds off a single master, and this is confirmed in the .mogg files.

And, what do you know...:
