Rhino will release the much anticipated remasters of Talking Heads albums on in Dual Disk format in October. Dual Disks contain a regular CD on one side, and a Dolby 5.1 version on the other. The entire Talking Heads back catalogue will be available on Dual Disk at once: "Talking Heads 77", "More Songs About Buildings and Food"", "Fear of Music", "Remain in Light", "Speaking in Tongues", "Little Creatures", "True Stories" and "Naked"."

Cool. Though I wish these were double discs (ala the R.E.M. reissues), I'll probably pick a few of these up myself.

I would definitely forked out a couple extra bucks for 2 disc sets. Too bad they decided to go the "double sided". So much for being able to play the redbook in my player

Now they're REALLY fucking with us:

The eight individual DualDiscs in the upcoming Talking Heads "Brick" boxset will be available separately in January 2006, at least in the US (first four at the beginning of the month, second four at the end of the month).

The "brick" is meant to be an introductory piece to announce the arrival of the remastered discs.

Despite the fabulous list of bonus material included on the DualDisks, there is more uncollected/unreleased material left in the vaults. The reason the reissues are not more "complete" is that unlike a standard CD which can contain up to 80 minutes of music, a DualDisc only holds 60 minutes. So there was simply no room to include more material.

Well, only the last two are crappy albums, but unless you want to spring for that big plastic box (picture's up on Talking-Heads.net), you have to wait until 2006.

I tried out that 3 CD/1 DVD box set a while back, and I said good things about that when I first heard it, but I retracted it later after really living with them for awhile. It was still a bit etched, the compression, while good compared to current recordings, began to get to me, etc. Same mastering engineer so probably the S.O.S. Then again, the old CD's weren't that great, so whatever, pick your poison.

I seem to recall mentioning this once, and getting shot down because the NIN DualDisc was 74 minutes. So what gives?

Someone mentioned the pits in Dual Discs are actually larger, etc.

Maybe with the NIN disc, they found a way around it.
