I could make a pit stop at one of the local stores here as they seemed to have had a surplus of the '93 remasters as recent as last week. I wouldn't mind picking it up to help you out with your tests.

Dave,

Thanks for the check on the "London Town" disk. Although all I've really needed to know if that my Fame copy does sound good (and I knew that already), it's good to know that there were no just as good and much cheaper copies around!

Can I be ignorant and ask which versions of the CDs are the FAME versions?

Original UK CD's. They come with two sets of catalog numbers, one of them beginning with CDFA, the other with the traditional CDP.

So far it seems that "London Town" is the only essential one.

Well, this assumes that there's only one version of the Capitol CD. It's entirely possible that they swapped versions at some point.

I find it odd, BTW, that "Macca II" is the same, while London Town is different. It isn't as if we're talking about "Macca II" and "Ram" or something; those're from the same basic period, and are of roughly the same popularity, I'd think.

They probably just felt that "London Town" had too much hiss, and "Macca 2" didn't. I mean, that is why they do such nasty things. They did the same thing with the Lennons too, didn't they? The bastards added NR before shipping the digital master to America.

Something else to consider is that the "London Town" and "McCartney II" CDs were not issued at the same time. "McCartney II" was released in the UK in 1987 and the US in 1988. "London Town" was released in both countries in 1989.

Does anybody have a US pressing of "Back To The Egg"? I've got an original Parlophone CD on the way.
