"Pictures Of Lily"? Use MBBB. Remember, the song starts quiet and then gets really loud by the end. Most CD's undo this but that's how it is on the original vinyl. Steve kept it on MBBB. There are two different mixes though. If you hear it without the crescendo, the crescendo has either been "fixed...

I'm on 0.8.3, and downloaded the "special" version. The lite version doesn't have the KS option. I'd be interested to hear if it makes a difference. I'd test it myself, but my main audio card is an RME, which doesn't even do WDM, let alone KS (it has low latency MME instead - seriously) ... and the ...

Can't answer the first question, but to get Kernel Streaming, go Foobar 2000>Preferences>Output - you then select the output method from the drop down menu over on the right. Then highlight Kernel Streaming on the left to alter the kernel streaming settings. First time you try to play something, you...

Re: pre-emphasis and archiving and cdda2wav

(Exact Audio Copy can tell you whether a disc has pre-emphasis or not - though IIRC the thread Luke was in on SHtv involved claims that the Toshiba Abbey Road was preemphized, even though EAC said it wasn't) Isn't this also true for the old blackface Harvest DSOTM? Yup - I've got one of those. My D...

And what exactly is the "single mix" of 5:15? I *thought* the version on The Singles and the box set was from the single released to tie in with the Quadrophenia movie - that single mix is similar to the movie mix. That's correct; you have the 1979 version on those. The 1973 single is the '73 album...

Re: Bowie update

As we've discovered, HD is the *same* digital transfer. That said, it's hilarious what dual-channeling Warhol did...the buzz on the low-frequency synth is almost completely obliterated on the Virgin! It's hilarious alright. You'd think the no-noise box would have a button on it that let them hear w...

That's correct. It's the EMI versions which I have, but they are the same remaster as the Rykos.

Is this text included in the Ryko releases? No; none of that text appears. The Ryko releases we are referring to appeared 9 years >before< the current Peter Mew remasters, at a time when 24 bit was still a long way off. The book credits Toby Mountain and Johnathan Wyner. But from what you are sayin...

D - following on from your last email about this, I did some OOPing on the Virgin/EMI to check out what you meant about the "gauzy" sound. It exposed a lot more of those crackling noises, the kind that I spotted on the intro to "Andy Warhol".

When I asked Simply Vinyl whether they used analog or digital sources for their Bowie releases, they replied that David Bowie himself *insists* on re-mastering from digital and *not* the analog sources. SV told me that Bowie was *very* adamant about this. Really? Does that apply to all the titles i...

Both in the ceiling where you left them.
