I don't know the first thing about digital audio, but from what little I've read, I've got to ask: wouldn't amplifying a low-amplitude waveform in the digital domain result in quantization noise (which is, I understand, the result of having used fewer bits to represent the signal because of the low-...

I've not finished reading this thread yet, but since the topic's at hand .. am I the only one who's perfectly happy with the '92 Ardent disc? I've not heard this material in any other incarnation, but the '92 CD sounds .. OK. Yeah, it's bright as all heck, but as it's been said here and elsewhere a ...

'corrective' phase-shifting .. app(s)/plugin(s)?
Hi everyone I thought I'd seen this somewhere amongst all of the options in CoolEdit, but can't find it now. Is there any (preferably free) audio editor or plug-in (DX/VST) that'd let me introduce a very minute, controlled amount of phase-shift on one channel of a waveform? I'm thinking 'fractions o...

If you're thinking of buying Sliver: The Best of the Box for the three stinking rarities: DON'T. They SUCK. .. The 1990 demo of "Sappy" plain stinks, nothing special AT ALL. Stick with the finished version. .. I hadn't even heard this was coming out. Is this '1990 demo of Sappy' you mention the aco...

Just for the heck of it.. what do you guys think of EtD? I d/l'ed it once, long ago (a really lousy rip), and frankly I didn't know what to make of it. All that jump-cut editing really got on my nerves, and seeing all those butchered clips from the '66 tour was almost too much to bear. Here's hoping...

Luke, check this page out. I just remembered about it, I was lucky to find it again. It appears to be pretty comprehensive.

There are these tapes called 'MRL' or some such, that some of the folks who owns reel decks over at SHtv mention from time to time.. from what I understand they're some sort of alignment/calibration/test tone/etc. tape, and they talk (type) about them as if they were the very best out there. At leas...

(not to start a new thread.. ) I'm checking out something called It's Not Too Bad , which traces the evolution of SFF from the roughest of John's home demos to an almost-finished state. It's truly fascinating. The copy I grabbed is allegedly a straight CD>WAV job, it's not even FLAC or SHNed. Yet I ...

I don't mean "Secure" for *extracting*...I mean for gap detection. IIRC, I think it's "Inaccurate," "Accurate" and "Secure." My bad- sorry about that. I'll take a look. (15 secs. later) What do you know. It was on 'Inaccurate' of all things . I'll run a couple discs thru it today after work a...
