True to that. I do like some of the music by the Sex Pistols, as well as their irreverent image. My screed is much more about the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame than the Sex Pistols. However, I think in a strange way that the Sex Pistols's presence on the music scene created as much damage as it benefit...

Sex Pistols in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??

At first, I think this qualifies for the stupidest idea ever. They made one "classic" album, one rip-off compilation, were cynically formed by a fashion designer to deliberately make waves, and they get nominated for the Hall of Fame (for the 3rd time). Every year, I grumble about the idiotic, polit...

 I read (I thought I read) the long instruction manual very carefully, and I couldn't find any mention of switching between the two layers. The one specific thing I remember mentioned in the instructions is that SACD is selected automatically when a SACD is loaded. When I get home from work th...

I thought the DVP-NS500V was supposed to be a pretty crappy SACD player. It could be.....I bought it because I heard at the time it's the best way to start with SACD playback. Besides, why would Sony release a player that plays their proprietary technology in a crappy way? I guess that question doe...

I don't like SACD. I've been down that dead end road, and I think that the sound quality is lacking, and the whole concept is a cynical marketing ploy. The Emperor's wearing no clothes. I compared Steve's Zombies Greatest Hits SACD/CD on two players. One is a Sony DVP NS-500V, the budget champ thoug...

I'm alright that these environmentalists feel so good about themselves doing something pro-environment, but it didn't take very long at all for them to think of hybrid car driving as a status symbol, just like the SUV drivers do. I'm glad they can get their cars without leather, they should have tha...

Hi Babe, I haven't heard the DCC Highway 61 before; I'm sure it must be better than the SACD, as Steve uses superior tube mastering equipment for his music restoration projects. You can't trust lesser engineers to use proper equipment in their masterings. It sounds like you addressed all shortcoming...

A lot of LP's from that time did have recycled vinyl in them. I don't know about this pressing, though. I mean, it sounds relatively clean and free from pops and ticks, so the quality of the vinyl may be good. I bought it still sealed about 7 years ago. The groove run-out markings didn't give anythi...

It's too bad there's no good compilation of the Pretenders. Thanks for the information. Has The Pretenders "Learning to Crawl" ever sounded good in any format? I have the LP and listened to the original CD, and I really didn't like the SQ on either. Love the music, though. I think both are too trebl...

There's a very long thread on this at the Audio Asylum (one of the longest I've seen there), in the General board. I've gotta hand it to Mr. Randi. He's 100% dead serious about the million dollar payout. Why hasn't anyone taken the bait yet? I mean, with that money, they could afford to buy one whol...

I wonder how Laura Bush feels about the Patriot Act policies. She's too smart to say something that would damage her old man's credibility, but this can't possibly sit well with her, can it? Who knows....we know she won't reveal.

My wife is a librarian, and I can vouch for how powerfully they feel about keeping our informational freedom intact. They are completely united on the issue of providing information to their patrons, even if the information is controversial or inflammatory. They were perhaps the most prominent, infl...

I agree, the remix (from my memory) integrates the band and orchestra better. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon your persuasion) it also buries the mellotron on some songs and removes a couple of nice vocal parts. But, the drums do sound considerably better on the remix. I don't know for...
