Sign o' the Times: The Movie

If anyone's interested, the Sundance Channel is showing Prince's Sign o the Times film this month. It's been out of print for ages and there's still no DVD release, so it's kinda cool that it's been resurrected. Is it a great film? No. It's horribly dated and pretty cheesy. Still, the music is great...

I don't think there's really such a thing as "common" CD's with pre-emphasis. It seems to exist only on very early releases, most of which have been rendered obsolete (and rather rare) by subsequent remasters. The only one I've ever found in my collection was an old Archie Shepp CD on Deno...

I ended up with an extra DVD of the RCA stuff, somehow. Anybody want it? I'd love to have it, but I was told just last week that our fucking Customs office has decided not to allow optical media to enter the country by mail anymore.. or something to that effect. Whatever. Carry on. Maybe David can ...

Actually, the only real problem I have with the Rubber Soul remix is that Martin went to such great lengths to duplicate the original, shitty stereo mix. If he'd centered the vocals and created a more coherent stereo spread, it would be much more impressive. Still, all things considered, it doesn't ...

How many times do we have to explain this to you people? All analog formats have infinite resolution. This has been proven. Eight-track cartridges and answering-machine microcassettes can attack decay better than a fucking electric toothbrush.

Quick question, the "Ask" single mix, is that the version where the "la-la-la-la" chorus fades out? The only versions I knew of prior to this disc was the standard instrumental fade out. That's correct. I think the single mix is much better than the "standard" version ...

I doubt that anyone gives a shit, but I'll let everyone bask in my reflected glory as I describe the new geeky-ass Smiths compilation I just put together. There are several Smiths tracks that have never made it onto a "proper" album here in the US and I have many of them scattered all over...

what sort of thing gets a person banned from pedro's? Oh you know, unforgivable sins like forgetting to scan both sides of the CD or uploading one track that's only 99.9% perfect according to EAC. Those fuckers expect a lot from their free music . Certainly, having some general rules is a good thin...

The history of cruddy-ass Beatles exploitation LP's goes back much further than that. How about Hear the Beatles Tell All! and The Beatles Story ? (The Pete Best comp Best of the Beatles doesn't count. That one's fucking hilarious.) And, of course, let's not forget the timeless collection Love Songs...

If the cocksuckers are going to create new fold-downs  , the least they could do is have them folded down by Brian Wilson. 8)

Seriously, though, as long as Ted Jensen has preserved the tonality of the tape hiss, I'll crawl through broken glass to buy this thing.

Just fondle your rosary beads and say a few Hail Lennons and Ave McCartneys. You'll be fine.

I received the first Capitol box as a Xmas present back in '04 and I've listened to it exactly once. The whole endeavor seems utterly pointless. It's just a salve for idiots like M*****l who want their precious, hacked-up, echo-laden nostalgia pieces. Just for shits'n'giggles, I downloaded a Dr. Ebb...

I downloaded a FLAC'ed version of the Toshiba Abbey Road at Oink a few months ago. The uploader graciously included a CUE sheet with PE flags and it sounds fine to my ears; the high end sounds natural, so I assume that my burned copy is identical to an original. If any of you are desperate for a cop...

I have the Rhino comp and it's OK, but nothing special. It doesn't sound like they were given really good tapes. There's an Island Records 4-disc box set that I checked out from a local library a few years ago and the version of "The Israelites" on there sounded fantastic, miles ahead of t...
