You've gotta block that shit out. It's like the Beatles, they were my favorite band and still are, but some of this syrupy nostalgia, baby-boomer-Beatlemania shit really gets on my nerves. Well said. I think that's the bottom line. I got into albums like Pepper and Pet Sounds when I was in my early...

How's the quality? Oh...if you're talking about the boot of the entire show - quality is pretty good. Performance-wise, average at best. Stuff like Country Comfort, Your Song, and I Need You To Turn To. Let's just say, that the best performances were chosen for the LP. Amoreena on the reissue CD is...

And what are the differences in the mix?

Couldn't tell you. I've never heard an original UK LP pressing.

I think on the UK mix, he says "turn me on dead man" if you play "Bad Side Of The Moon" backwards.

Ooo se ma la...

About Brian "doing better than last year or ten year ago".... Brian is very inconsistent. I saw the Pet Sounds tour 2002 in Berlin, and he was very shaky and insecure. Many missed vocals, no energy, no feeling. Then I saw the Smile show last year in Frankfurt, and he was phenomenal, especially duri...

Re: 11-17-70

Over lunch one of the local stations was playing Sixty Years On. Which was then followed by Bad Side Of The Moon. After a second of head scratching, I realized what the date was today... Anyway, has the whole show ever shown up anywhere? Or even the setlist? Also, I seem to recall hearing there wer...

Indeed, but in fairness, it isn't limited to BW. Just look at how every Stones album for the past 15 years has been "the best since Exile" or "the best since Some Girls". It's probably worse with BW, but... I think the difference is that it goes so many levels deeper with Brian and his following - ...

Everybody knows Brian is sensitive to criticism, and I think as a result there has emerged this subgroup of Brian fanboys who believe that any criticism of any Brian project is somehow going to filter back to him and cause him to have another breakdown. It's a sort of cultlike "Brian says the new S...

Here's some other comments/reviews of the PurpleChick if anyone's interested. "darlin's" a little more enthusiastic about Barnyard and Good Vibes than I am. But, I find myself agreeing with much of what is said: http://www.earcandymag.com/purplechicksmile-2005.htm http://comiclist.com/smileysmile/vi...

However, I think that there is nothing unique on this disc. Everyhting can be found either on SOT 15 (Good Vibrations sessions) or on Archaeology (various Heroes & Villains sessions), or am I mistaken? And I like the sound quality on Archaeology a bit better. I haven't compared all the discs to...

And while were at it, does anyone have a *non-lossy* copy of the "Heroes & Vibrations" boot they could torrent or post somewhere - either FLACS, SHN, or WAV? I've had an MP3-based one for ages, but foolishly passed on an original that I saw sitting at a shop many moons ago (actually a CD-R, as I...

Alan Boyd recently posted on the Smiley Shop board that they haven't found any Smile stuff since the short instrumental takes of I'm in Great Shape were discovered a few years ago. They do have a good tape source for Barnyard though. I guess that one was missed by whoever did the Sea of Tunes stuff...

I just downloaded the Fast Eddie. All I can say is... skip it. While it doesn't try and copy the new BWSmile to the letter as the PC does, the edits and overall production work are sloppy. Too many things to even begin listing. The "Surf's Up" overlay falls out of sync in places, and the "Good Vibra...

Oh oh, it's a war of the reconstructionists. Fast Eddie just posted his FLAC version too.
