Ryan said: As far WMA vs. MP3 goes, I stick with MP3 just because it's so universally supported. Like Xenu said, though, WMA seems to do better at 128k or lower bitrates, where MP3 sounds awful. I recently got a 40GB iPod also. I take it you rip your CDs in mp3. What bit rate do you use? Seth

Back to the CD text thread - how do you put the text on to a CDR?

So far the only ones of my CD's that have had text show up are the Stones hybrids and one of my daughter's CDs (I think KimPossible). Do a lot of CDs have text?

I recently needed to replace my CD player, and while I was very tempted to get one that plays SACD as well, I didn't find one that was good enough (at least without going into the really high end). I ended up with an Arcam CD93t, which doesn't even have HDCD decoding (though it does have "oversampli...

My favorite Pretenders song is My City Was Gone, but IIRC, it is inexpicably omitted from any best-of CDs. Why? (I have it on a 45 P/S)

Hopefully the US mixes, "with" the Dexterisms. But we also need the UK versions to be remastered....

I had to log in again, but that may just be because I haven't come here from my home computer in a while - I usually do it at work (much faster).

I got the Stones one last week. I only listened to a few so far, and haven't compared the sound to anything, other than noticing they are mono, but my impression is they are certainly no better than the recent SACD hybrids (and why would they be?). The packaging is the attraction, but the picture sl...

What's the deal with the Who singles box. Is this going to be like the 2 Kinks singles boxes (which I have)?

I got them, and it's a nice package, but even as a hard core Beatles fan, I must say that George's solo stuff, with some notable exceptions, is, well, dull.

I can't answer your question about the sound quality comparison, but I can say that the box is great and definitely worth getting (at the best price you can, of course).

I got a Denon around 1986 - was that when the first Beatles CDs came out (other than the early Japanese ones?). It eventually died and I replaced it with a California Audio Labs.

My hesitance in getting a record cleaner is not really the money (though that is a factor) or its effectiveness, but rather the space it would take up in my apartment (I don't have a basement or a garage or a spare room), and the VERY LOUD noise it makes. Who wants to literally run a vacuum cleaner ...

No green pen, but do you have a VPI record cleaning machine? I decided not to get one because: 1. The Discwasher is good enough 2. The VPI machine is expensive 3. It's big, and I live in a small apartment 4. It sounds like a freaking 747! (or at least an unmuffled vacuum cleaner, which is essentiall...

I should clarify that the replacement was just of the dust cover, not the whole TT. And I think the sound improvement is due in large part to the TT itself, not just the cartridge. (My previous TT was a B&O with tangential tracking that got worn out and is no longer supported by B&O, nor are the spe...
