I've been using a neat piece of free-ware from Opcode Digital Media called 'OpD2d'. Real-time 16 bit/44.1 kHz recording off the soundcard straight to WAV. http://www.opcode.co.uk I can't access the site, but do a search on OpD2d for links & such... Thanks, I'll check it out. The one area though...

I'll also add that it works just great at recording those pesky streaming webcasts that some of the streaming audio "strippers" (e.g. Streambox) can't find the root URL for. Though in that department, regarding other products, Streambox always tends to work decent with Real content and GetASFStream ...

Total Recorder rocks!

After finding only one high quality WMA to WAV convertor (Advanced WMA Workshop...with all the others sounding like shit after conversion), I decided to play around with the Total Recorder. I'd always avoided this product in the past because I was under the impression that its method of recording wa...

Look at the burning options. I *think* EAC defaults to pulling the tray back in after writing. On a laptop drive it can't do that, so it produces an error message. I think mine was doing that a few years ago.

It does eject after write, so that must be the culprit.

The Toshiba burner that I have in the laptop I'm using works with EAC, but gives me a friendly error message at the end of every write. Doesn't seem to be affecting the outcome of anything though.

Interesting thread indeed. Looks like a must-read tome. My one concern though is that, like any book of this nature, I'm sure there will be a good dose of analysis and commentary - and this is where legend and myth are often born. The one thing that looks to be a positive in this regard though, is t...

Apologies to the original poster: "You know, I'm glad Brian is surrounded by band members and disciples who love him and help him get his music out there. If he had all these forum critics advising him, he might be cowering in a cottage somewhere in southern California, afraid to do a show." Czeskle...

Apparently I've ruffled a few feathers over there by suggesting that BW wasn't really back.. You done good Chris. I wish I was as courageous as you to put forth such a suggestion in a sea of Brianistas. The truth sometimes hurts. They'll get over it. http://www.geocities.com/viva_brianistos/Brinist...

HDCD is a joke. It should be retired immediately. The thing that sucks about it the most, is that when it first came out Pacific Microsonics tried to create this facade that there would "even be improvement" with playback on non-HDCD machines. Of course, we now know that if they elect to use that i...

All good points - particularly the one about sampling tunes. I never even thought of that! I guess for me it's always been a matter of just grabbing what I want in its entirety. Though, *now* I am (for the first time ever) on a Giganews 25 gig/month limit...at least until I get back to my home base....

I guess the iPod/Jukebox folks want their tracks already sliced and diced...good to go.

The concept of actually burning an entire CD as-is may soon be a distant memory!

Query on lossless binary newsgroups

I was just curious as to why they're against posting complete disc images with cue sheets. That way, we could get exact clones with gaps and sub-index points perfectly in place. Seems like it would also help eliminate the problem of dropped parts. Is is that there's some kind of line restriction or ...

This CSN disc is also encoded with HDCD. I finally got around to grabbing both of these. Haven't decoded the FLACS to WAV for burning yet though. Question: Does something like Windows Media Player decode the HDCD flag upon WAV playback? I don't have a HDCD CDP where I'm at right now and would like ...
