Re: The Who - Philly '73

The WGV material is going to be a different animal Why? I wouldn't expect it to be. I mean...it *is* different, but it is unclear why it would be. Obviously a different mix from the multis. But the biggest difference if the quality of the mix. The Original KB (earlier) mix is just horrid. I almost ...

Re: The Who - Philly '73

I thought that the Washington, DC location mention was in error. I recall that being said on original broadcasts, the one I taped in 1975. And yes, original broadcasts were SQ encoded Quad, as were all the CDs of the broadcasts until the remix post 1987. Obviously there was a remix for Best of the B...

Re: The Who - Philly '73

How is this 2007 reel to reel transfer of the Who 73' KBFH material as seen here, as compared to other sources?:

I still need 1st gen on Sea and Sand, and those few rarer tracks.

Re: All the Roadrunning

I just listened to this the other night. I found it nice, ok, and a bit boring. Like they decided it would be good for their careers to do an album together, and it came out well. But the songs are not real standouts. Mark Knopfler is an exceptional guitarist, and fine enough songwriter. But it just...

Re: Jackson 5 - ABC - multitracks!!!

I need to get that LZ reel!!! I just threaded up that J5 multi. I find that playing all vocals with only bass backing really shows off the arrangement in a fun way. The song is so drilled into our brains from constant radio play and media ownership that it is not so mysterious as other tracks might ...

Re: Jackson 5 - ABC - multitracks!!!

I have not sat down with it and brought them all up on the board for my own amusement yet. Are you saying that each track seems to have a L or R mate to it, so each track is one part of a stereo track? If that is the case, then there might have been some bouncing after sub mixing? and so each stereo...

Jackson 5 - ABC - multitracks!!!

Did ya'll see that the multitracks to this old Motown gen appeared on the green devil site? I love it when they up those kinds of things. I use Sony Vegas (video editing / audio mixing software for PC) to bring them all up and view with faders and mute button. Someday I am going to do a 5.1 mix (or ...

Thanks Luke for the overview and your quick first impressions. I guess the alt. cover art (must be lifted from the Ethan Russell book, I need to go look) is about the best thing going on here?

Re: Finally I am Ripping with dBpoweramp for Music Server

I'm still rippin' away little by little bit by bit. I had a long time friend of mine, this 74 year old guy who died - who was a 20th Century classical music collector. He left me in charge of selling his collection of LPs and CDs. It was 1,300 CDs. I was recently down to the last 300 or 350 CDs that...

Re: Chicago on the KBFH (in Quadraphonic) 1974?

Romanotrax who posted the original SQ decode from KBFH CD (I would guess that was his source) has posted an upgrade of this Chicago concert on DVD-A taken from Quad Reel to Reel source . I've been grabbing all of the quad material (fan) mastered to DVD-As. This one is now on my HDD along with some o...

Re: ClickRepair fixed "Trident Mixes" 2LP (sort of)

So I tried ClickRepair as a trial. It really is pretty amazing in that it claims to not rewrite the entire file, but just the bit parts where there were the removed ticks. That's all any click removal software should do. If it is modifying other parts of the file it isn't written well. I know, I kn...

ClickRepair fixed "Trident Mixes" 2LP (sort of)

I never bothered with this software on my needle drops because I have such a backlog of drops to do that I can always find ones that need no real repair. I'd rather work with the LPs that are near mint anyway, and just erase a couple of ticks or clicks by hand and then I'm done. But I was looking at...
