Warner Brothers DVDs

This article discusses Warner Brothers's stunning reissues of classic movies, and the technical aspects of bringing them to DVD. I own the DVD versions of Casablanca and The Adventures of Robin Hood, and they look and sound incredible.

1 Liter for $12.99, that can't be beat.

I googled Thor's Hammer Vodka, and they still have a website, but my internet at work won't let me click on the link (alcohol related). There's some online retailers that are carrying it, but they look a lot more expensive than $12.99.

Oops, I reversed the two (Belvedere, Chopin). They're pricey, but so worth it.

I haven't seen Thor's Hammer yet in Virginia. Our ABC stores might be a little bit slow to get this one.

As far as mixed drinks go, I like Vodka tonics a lot more than screwdrivers or other mixed drinks where the object seems to be to obscure the alcohol taste, so I like a vodka with a good flavor. I haven't seen the Stoli black anywhere over here, just the regular label, which is IMO pretty good. But,...

Dudelsack, do you drink Goose straight or mix it, or both? I also want to try Belvedere. It's by the same company that makes Chopin, but Chopin is made with grain (rye, IIRC) and Belvedere is made with potatoes. People say that both are great, it just comes down to what the individual prefers. I sho...

I don't know about infused Vodkas, but I'd like to talk about some Vodka. I love Chopin for straight drinking, and Tangueray Citrus for mixing. Has anyone had Skyy or Grey Goose before? Those are my next ones to sample.

I'll have to try an infused vodka drink sometime.

Soda Stereo

Is there anyone here who likes the Argentinian band Soda Stereo? I don't speak Spanish; I wish I did. However, I don't have to know it to appreciate their musicianship, I think this was one of the great groups out there. They're worth checking out. It's a shame that they probably won't reunite. I ha...

The cable issue is still the biggest stink pile in the Audiophile world. I don't know the science, but I do believe that manufacturers of CD players would not supply a free interconnect with their product if they thought it would make their product sound bad.

The names of some of those products (Nimbus, Promethean Base, Brilliant Pebbles, Magic Ring) would make Madison Avenue blush. And I thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous in the world of tweakdom......

I can see how the powers that control music would engineer people to listen to a format, in much the same way that CD won out over vinyl. An interesting part of the vinyl/CD battle is that many old school DJs were convinced that the music industry, when it converted to CD from LP, was trying to put ...

I used to have the old CD. It's great music, but I thought it sounded lousy. I picked up an LP, Mango pressing, several years back, and I liked it a lot more than my CD, so I sold it. In retropect, it probably didn't sound as bad as I thought it did, I just liked the LP better. There was a thread at...

Here we go again, more insanity. Predictably, it's the Democrats from Northern Virginia who stand up against the bigotry and intolerance of gays and lesbians. From the Richmond Times-Dispatch: Senate approves measure banning gay marriages It's expected to pass in the House and then would be put to v...

I think many people look to the past as much as they do the future. Just the other day, I saw a group of teenage school girls in uniformed plaid skirts scrounging the vinyl bins at the local brick and mortar store. I don't know how to interpret their actions: they could have just been looking at the...

I was saddened to hear of Jim Capaldi's death. He was a technically gifted, inventive, rhythmically flawless drummer. Also, he was an underrated co-songwriter with Winwood, a fact made evident when looking at Winwood's AOR solo career. Until he died, I didn't know he was one of music's genuinely goo...
