Correction - That should actually read "glass half-empty." But, you folks probably figured that one out already...lol. :)

Re: Republican Scott Brown defeats Martha Coakley in Mass.

A couple of things: Regarding the above "Rude Pundit" quote: As I've previously stated, my feeling is that the hard push on HC from the Dems wouldn't have changed the outcome one iota. They most likely felt that the American public has seen enough bully pulpit tactics the previous 8 years....

Re: Republican Scott Brown defeats Martha Coakley in Mass.

I'm not sure my writing was succinct and to the point. I was stating that in politics, they are trying to keep HCR off the table and keep corp "big business" in mind, not the voters who want changes made doing it in. Not self sabotage. I think my writing left out who "they" was....

Re: Republican Scott Brown defeats Martha Coakley in Mass.

I don't know either. I keep hearing from some of my friends about big business having bought out government politics, and that everything is about money. So they will do whatever they can to stop health care reform, and keep big business' interests in mind. Jeff, the "we're mad as hell, and we...

Re: Republican Scott Brown defeats Martha Coakley in Mass.

Jon Stewart can speak for me on this one: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-january-18-2010/mass-backwards FWIW, the notion that this is a referendum on health care reform is a bit silly, since Coakley was leading by 30 points a few weeks ago and nothing substantive has changed about health car...

Re: Torture Joe Lieberman

It is disheartening indeed. I bleed left as much as anyone. Furthermore, I'm not sure which outcome is worse in the court of public opinion. Being high-minded on the road to ultimate failure and going down with the ship, or crossing one's fingers and hoping one can get something across the finish li...

Re: Torture Joe Lieberman

One more thing I'd like to add is that while, yes, the Democratic Party is Obama's primary voting base, I'm not so sure what that even encompasses anymore (as witnessed by recent events). I even read a poll where the majority of Americans identify themselves as either Democrat or Independent...but.....

Re: Torture Joe Lieberman

IMO, I think the problem is that the energized *base* comment is a slippery slope. Obama was, and is, a centrist from the get-go. Now, one can argue that governing from the middle is a sure fire recipe for disaster in which 1/3 of the country is always unhappy, but I believe that there really isn't ...

I'll just add...that should read razor-thin, "filibuster-proof," 60 seat majority. In case that was in doubt.

Re: Torture Joe Lieberman

What earthly horrors would you like to visit upon the smug bag of shit from Connecticut? I'm thinking a lifetime of cleaning bedpans for people with severe digestive trauma and no health insurance. Or perhaps a lifetime of telling people their uninsured loved ones have died and how that outcome was...
