For those members in need of a "Pit"-stop, head over to the ProSoundWeb forum and check out this excellent and informative thread concerning DSD/PCM: Digidesign and DSD . Also this one over on Lynn Fuston's excellent board concerning 24/16bits: 16 bit blues...... I would also recommend anyone who is...

Steely Dan's Aja on CD
Leppo has supplied a link where you can compare (what is purported to be) SH's version with (supposedly) Nichols' version. It cuts back and forth at 30-second intervals. Japanese - US JVC - Japanese - US JVC The US JVC is (supposedly) SH's version. http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=74...

Here is an update from James Randi: No, none of those 13 people I e-mailed about the audio challenge weeks ago have replied, a fact that I'm sure will not surprise my readers. They won't because they can't. They're fakers, irresponsible quacks, and they've gone under that huge rock where the other f...

I can't find this particular post -- is it edited together from several others? This was taken from the Mastering Web Board . There is a section there called 'The Big Controversy' and in there is an article called '192k vs 96k Discussion/Analysis'. I felt it summed up his overall thoughts pretty go...

Since that thread on the George Massenburg forum is rather long and it contains a lot of noise, read this post from Mr. Lavry carefully as it pretty much says it all. I first stated my objections to 192KHz sampling for audio publicaly, while chairing the seminar "All about AD converters" at the NY A...

Those looking for a corrective to SACD enthusiast bull (and aren't we all?) are hereby directed to this HT forum thread for a stellar example: Another Lee Scoggins Smackdown That LeeS is quite a character. At least on that forum they do let him get away with it. He reminds of Reagan's comment that ...

Thomh, if I understand you correctly, it's interesting that you seem to be saying that a downsampled SACD excerpt, when A/B'd against the actual SACD, sounds identical. So much for the need for higher resolutions then, no? Sorry for my late response. I wanted to wait until we had a chance to test s...

Question for the gang: Who is able to hear the difference in the echo? When I play the wav file through my LynxTwo soundcard and listen through a pair of headphones, the last 4 snare hits has a deeper and more 3D echo. And when I a/b it against the SACD layer on the disc they are identical. Gardo, I...

Listen through a pair of headphones. It does not scream out you but the last 4 snare hits exhibit a fuller and deeper echo. Here are the stats for Fortunate Son: SACD ---- Min Sample Value: -32768 -30383 Max Sample Value: 32759 30397 Peak Amplitude: 0 dB -.65 dB Possibly Clipped: 2 0 DC Offset: -.00...

This echo difference you speak of -- which I assume is apparent enough to obviate the need for a blind comparison -- if it's this* audible, it shoudl show up as a visible diff in a .wav view of the various versions....for the SACD, you'll have to capture the analog feed , but the two CDs can be cap...

Apparently the eyes of god are upon us: Apparently not god himself, but one of his loyal servants. ---------------------------------------- Steve responds: I don't want you to believe anything. All I'm saying is TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. Thomh, Krab said I use different mastering chains. I do not. I use...

My first post at this forum! Wanna hear the dumbest one of all? True story! You know, Steve Hoffman actually got all in a huff over my questions and legitimate doubts about the supposed "superiority" of SACD, particularly when I insisted on hitting them with the scientific facts of the matter. He f...

Again, you bring up nothing about the sampling depth here. I can sample at 44kHz using *1* bit, but what I get certainly won't be a "complete" encoding of the original signal. What has been said along is that all signals <Fs/2 will be sampled equally accurately for amplitude, phase and frequency. A...
