Re: New Who Japanese mini-LPs
Re: It's Hard - I don't know. The MCA might have a small upper midrange peak that could possibly be tamed a bit, but for the most part to me it just sounds like a Glyn Johns production, for better or worse. It will be interesting to see how WBN and WAY compare to the original CDs. I still wonder wha...

Re: New Who Japanese mini-LPs
Oh, and seeing it here reminds me: do you know why they left "Melancholia" off the Sell Out deluxe? Yeah...it didn't fit in the first place. It was a Who's For Tennis track (mid '68), not recorded around the time of the rest of the Sell Out stuff. It should be interesting to see what this...

Funny Japanese translations with slightly more info: Who's Missing and Two's Missing +11 / Who [Paper Series Who Jackets] edited collection of rare tracks of the U.S. "Who's Missing" (1984) and "Two's Missing" (1985) coupling, carefully selected by the best masters of each song A...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
I would look at it from the other side, and check the credits on View for a Back Stage Pass, which I do not have a hard copy of. See who is credited with ownership there on those tracks. I'd be interested in knowing if Uni gets any mention. Is the KBFH or D.I.R. in the credits at all there? I don't...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
Live Who tapes are the crown jewels of the Pete archives. Universal cannot claim rights to them under the band's contract under normal circumstances. Why do you say that? As far as I can recall, none of the archival live releases say anything like "Under license from Eel Pie" or "Und...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
I think Pete makes less money on anything that includes Polydor/Universal Who catalog tiles. A Quadrophenia box set, or a double. He is better off mixing a live 73 show (or the full 1971), and issuing it on his own under a different deal. If a) that was true and b) Pete cared about money that much,...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
Plus the wonderful Young Vic slab included in the DE Who's Next, does that not count? Not if we're talking about "holding things back" or whatever. The Who's Next DE could have easily been a 2 CD set of studio recordings, with the complete Young Vic being a separate release. Instead they ...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
Like a separate release. I'm going with "no release". My guess is Pete is at best indifferent to the live Quad material. There has been a slow steady flow of new product over the last 20 odd years. Some remixes, bonus tracks, live sides, box set, deluxe editions, concert video, etc. There...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
I really think that Townshend has other things in mind with live 73 tapes. That is the only reason that they were not included in this set. Like...not releasing them? Townshend must be pissed off at Universal, and is holding back on all the live stuff, full 5.1, and high rez mastering. It just make...

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
Fang is convinced the multitracks are like that, but the mix sheet for LROM notes no vocal reverb on other tracks (and there are even 2 empty tracks), nor does it make a lick of sense.
My vote continues to be "bad mix".

Re: Thoughts on Quad box
Mine is on the way.
I've heard that the 5.1 mix is often awash in reverb.

Satisfaction - Surprisingly, runs a few seconds longer than Hot Rocks 1. If other (lower quality) boots ran longer in the past, I missed it. Also, it runs at the correct speed (or at least closer to it), while HR1 runs fast. *Also*, the hiss remains constant during the fade on HR1, suggesting the s...
