Thom, have you listened to the Dylan discs yet? I'm curious if there really is any difference at all, or if all those drugs I did in high school are catching up to me. I'd be surprised if the Dylans weren't downconverted, but I have no hard evidence of it. Ryan I will check out Nashville, BOTT and ...

Anybody know fer sure whether the Redbook portion on the Stones and Dylan SACDs is downsampled or a separate mastering? I cannot believe that these ol' master tapes has any life above 20kHz or a dynamic range over 90dB. Heck, I bet them Stones tapes fall off around 15kHz. So in a perfect world, that...

I could hear some subtle differences with the Dylan stuff. Whether they were due to DSD "improvements" or different mastering or downsampling artifacts or what, I don't know. But I could tell the difference blind. Thing is, the SACD didn't always sound "better." Just different. What pre-amp/amp/etc...

A couple of days ago I purchased Grieg's Norwegian Dances SACD released on the Swedish label BIS. It was recorded using DSD and contained the following introduction to this new format: The Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology used for this recording differs fundamentally from usual systems of tran...

FACT: DVD-A at 24/96 over six channels is VASTLY superior to multichannel SACD. DO THE MATH! FACT: DSD is FATALLY FLAWED. That's why Sony introd...

Red Trumpet is now advertising that the original albums are "all-analog," while YS Songtrack, 1 and LIBN are not. Ryan Oh my. If this is correct then I just *might* be a bit curious in picking up 3 or 4 of the titles just to compare them to the CDs. Except for some f***-ups, the CDs really are quit...

Even after clearing all that up, though, I honestly think 16/44 is fine. I can't hear any difference between my LPs and the CD-Rs I make from them, although of course I'm using inferior equipment... Yeah, that is what I have been told as well. It seems inorder to appreciate the "finer details...

In this thread, which I see Luke participated, the master tapes which he has spent close to 20 years listening to and digitizing has suddenly seen a rise in dynamic range. http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12530&highlight=Whats+the+Worst+thing+about+SACDs GoldenGuy, The bo...

With regards to the dynamic range of LPs being greater than ordinary Redbook, consider that you digitally record an LP and capture all the "magic" in the grooves. What does that tell you about transparency and dynamic range. Try going the other way with a really dynamically recorded CD. Even Steve ...
