Re: Mr. Soul/Bluebird/Merry Go Round/Uno Mundo Mixes

The biggest thing with the machine is it sucks everything off so it doesn't dry back on the record. Even if all of the "dirt" is washed away, having tap water dry back on the record is bad. A soft terry cloth towel is used to dry record by hand. Gentle motion in direction of grooves. Then...

I met President Obama

That's right, I got to talk to him one on one for 60 seconds and got my picture taken with him last month 5/10. See times are tough and I am doing some bartending and waiter work on the side right now. I never thought I would do that again, but the great recession has reduced me to lower my expectat...

LIVE RADIO SHOWS King Biscuit WW1 BBC Supergroups The Source

I wanted to start a thread on those "In Concert" Radio Show transcription discs. The one like the King Biscuit Flower Hour, Westwood One, BBC Rock Hour, and Supergroups in Concert, etc. I have been re-editing many of my pre-FM radio shows for my music server. When you have six LP sides and...

Re: Mr. Soul/Bluebird/Merry Go Round/Uno Mundo Mixes

Honestly, I do not think any record cleaning machine can do a better job than I can with my hands. With my bare hands I can feel bits of dirt a brush cannot feel. And those brushes keep scrubbing when scrubbing is not needed. Each record is a case by case example of what kind of a cleaning it needs....

Old Cartridges & Needles

Am I the only one who has saved all of their old cartridges and stylus' and head shells, etc.? I have a couple of show boxes with every little piece of pick-up devices I have ever owned. I do this because every once in a while I come across a new unopened stylus in the dollar bin at a thrift store o...

Re: Mr. Soul/Bluebird/Merry Go Round/Uno Mundo Mixes

I have also seen some styrene 45s that have mirror like surface as well as rough textured playing area. That was my problem with the description in link. I go by that ringing sound when tapping on edge, or of course low-gloss paper label glued on record for detection of the dreaded styrene. I have a...

Re: Mr. Soul/Bluebird/Merry Go Round/Uno Mundo Mixes

PS this description of styrene vs. vinyl is very poor: See the differences in the picture? They're pretty obvious alright. The vinyl 45 has a shinier surface, and the label is pressed on together with the vinyl mold by the pressing plant. The styrene 45's surface looks more "dull" compared...

Re: Mr. Soul/Bluebird/Merry Go Round/Uno Mundo Mixes

It was not previously obvious to you which 45s are styrene I take it. Seems to be a US invention for record pressing material. I have had some of them that play just fine with a 440ML, and others that get shredded to bits after one pass. So there is that risk (with micro-line tips) I had not known a...

longer phone wire, or longer Ethernet cables

I just thought of something. I have a router which I have mentioned that is serving DSL internet to three computers. This router is actually in the bedroom, right around (other side of) the wall from my computer workstation. The phone jack used is the closer one) on the other side of the wall as wel...

Re: Pet Sounds on disc

Awe never mind, I should just stick with the stereo mix, and preferably in hi-res and just forget about mono on CD. I mean I can always dig out a green label mono LP I picked up in 1984 at Wherehouse Records on Harbor Blvd. in Costa Mesa, CA. Remember those green label reissues which turned out to b...

Pet Sounds on disc

I was wondering which disc most folks prefer for the mono and the stereo mixes of this album? The MFSL SACD has gotten good notices for the later stereo mix. I wondered if the AF gold in mono is an improvement over the DCC gold CD issue in most folks opinion?. I read that the mono master is missing ...

Re: What the fuck happened to Stereo Central?

I drop in there once every three months or so just to see what's being talked over. Now I see that they are offline. Does this mean it is the end of SC as it was known? Not that it is the end of the Wiki page updating/editing, as you know these types of people that feel that they are on a mission ne...

Re: The Who - Philly '73

This semi-recent reel to reel drop is botched, and I am sure that another transfer done by someone with a good deck and know-how would be better. The original mix does sound cloudy on the broadcast reel, but not tinny like this one does. Oh well.

Re: The Who - Philly '73

Obviously a different mix from the multis. But the biggest difference if the quality of the mix. The Original KB (earlier) mix is just horrid. I almost regret posting the link to yet another transfer of it. Another reason I'd say the WGV material is a different animal is the different show offered....
