The only other LD player I've seen that comes close is the Pioneer LD-V8000, their top-of-the-line industrial model. Its lack of convenience features, however, is a major downside. I had a V8000 and sold it too. I thought the picture was very good, but thought I liked the look of my LX-900 a tiny b...

I also have a Pioneer DVL-700 (the original DVD/LD "combiplayer"), which does similar things. I still use it as an LD player, for which it's a jewel. Ryan, Not meaning to stray off subject, but tell me more about the LD side of the DVL-700 from a picture quality standpoint. Luminance S/N, chroma no...

There was a rumor a year or two ago that Criterion was going to do a deluxe package for "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls". Roger Ebert even posted on a message board around that time that he had recently recorded a commentary track. Fast forward to a few months ago. Someone stated they had contacted ...

And a total lack of quality assurance on some. Despite TTD's crazy restrictions, I've downloaded plenty of stuff from there with major diginoise... I hear ya. And if that's not bad enough, there seems to be this phenomenon where every self-proclaimed mastering engineer feels the need to "fix" the r...

Thanks 801...that's what I'll most likely end up doing. Just some random observations on the live torrent sites. Boot City and Dime A Dozen (which, as noted, I've yet to taste) seem to be the big dogs, with Traders Den, Pure Live Gigs and Zombtracker on the next tier in terms of content variety and ...

Just a quick follow-up question: I've been able to register with all the sites except Dime A Dozen. Every time I've checked over the last month I still get the same message telling me I can't register 'cause they've reached their 100,000 user limit. Yet, when I check the stats (currently showing 100...

Mike, what you describe is the one reason why I don't post as much on Beach Boys message boards anymore, despite them being my very favorite band by far. I know where you're coming from. I was part of the Beach Boys/BW message board and mailing list train for nearly a decade. When they started beco...

Ahh yes, indeed. But, let's take it to the next level for just a second - an alternate universe theory if you will. Assuming that they were both doing it just to keep within the spirit of holiday cheer, I have to wonder if each "performance" would be critiqued using the same standards if that histor...

Not to beat a dead horse...ok...maybe to beat it a little: Now, I *get* that Mike Love is considered the antichrist to all things Brian. But, why is it that when Mike appears on some TV parade show doing a re-recorded "Little Saint Nick" that he's mocked mercilessly on a message board? Yet, when Bri...

That's because, after Angie Harmon and Elisabeth Hasselback, pickins' are pretty slim over there on the right.

I also believe that at one time she was linked with Bob Guccione Jr - though now they're splitsville. So, how much of her own rightie muck can she honestly believe if she'd even be caught within 500 yards of him? It's all a big game for her. Yet, the mere thought of the face of a child they could pr...

She's pure shock value. I don't think she honestly believes half the shit that comes out of her mouth. But she's learned along the way that this stuff sells, appealing to same folks who treat every syllable of Rush's as pure gospel. Plus, it keeps her in the spotlight and helps her sell books, which...

I've got one Wounded Bird release - the Hollies reunion album. Sounds like a straight transfer to my ears. Awful record though.

I'll probably end up getting the Byrds '73 reunion album at some point too. I have the WEA import version that lops off part of 'See The Sky About To Rain'.

Yeah, it was Summertime Blues. Not exactly an inspired version as I seem to recall...considering the whole "Who On Ice" arrangement.

The 1989 stuff is a straight port of the old Tommy Live VHS/LD. It wouldn't surprise me if the video was taken from the LD master. The sound seems to have been genuinely remixed into 5.1 on this, though, since there are some things that weren't there on the previous releases. (For example, before "...
