...he got all excited, declaiming, "I really thought I was the only person in the world who knew about Scott Walker!!!!" ...except for all those British fans that made his second album reach number one in the U.K., and put his first four albums in the top ten. I hope markl was being facetious. Unfo...

If anyone cares, here's the follow-up story. Received the OWC "Mercury Elite" drive. 250 GB (well, 231 ACTUAL GBs). Very solidly built, nice looking. Extremely fast bus. I'm impressed. So quiet you have to place your ear directly on the case to hear much of anything. I'm sold! I plan to buy another ...

In 2008 the Republican president and Republican Congress will not be able to blame anyone else for the shit situation we're in... they will have been in power long enough that they have to take responsibility for it. Don't worry. Pundits and right wing talk radio windbags will continue to blame eve...

I know this off the main topic, but, sorry, I can't sit idly by while grossly distorted facts about Western intervention in the Yugoslavian conflict are being recklessly tossed around in this thread. (I know you guys don't mean to.) The US, Canada, and Western Europe bear responsibility for this tra...

It's kind of sad/funny when the most sensible talk about 'defeating terror' comes from Osama bin Laden. That's the dirty little secret (staring the world in the face) that no one in the West is willing to confront. From day one since 9/11, bin Laden is the only one who talks rationally and methodic...

I don't know why I care so much about it, but it fascinates me for some sick reason. Same here, and I can't even imagine why that is. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that after all this time, the Hendrix catalog is still mysteriously screwed up -- and nobody can say why that is. It would...

Am I wrong, or are there two different 1993 masterings -- the ugly cover MCAs and then whatever replaced them? I thought the EH ones came along much later. I could be wrong about all of this.

So, Luke, are you talking about the ugly MCAs in your post? I'm confused.

Wha?! .... It's bad enough that I have to spend every day worrying that I'm going to DIE before The Savage Young Beatles and Ahhh ... Laine comes out on GOLD Cee Dee. Now Capitol shafts us once again by leaving out my favorite Beatles album of all time, The Beatles Story . Look, folks, I TOLD YOU TH...

These Mercury Elite firewire drives at Other World Computing (can't seem to make a direct link to the firewire drive page, sorry) are supposed to be the most quiet, fastest, and most reliable. The 250 GB one goes for $260. I guess I'll give it a try. Sorry for unintentionally pointing out the HD whi...

If those do come out, should be great value for money. They'll sell for $18 or $19 and those albums are how long -- 29, 31 minutes? It's pathetic.

I still say there ought to be a worldwide moratorium on the Beatles for at least 10 years.

I've recently transferred all my rock and jazz CDs (about 800) to a pint-sized 300 Gb hard drive (the Maxtor One-Touch, which cost less than $1/gig) Krabapple, I'm also in the ongoing process of converting nearly 1000 CDs to lossless. I've had my eye on that Maxtor One-Touch (it's pretty cheap at C...

Not to get too far off topic, but I have wondered about something relating to (I guess it is) the PQ subcode. I have 4 "copy controlled" Kevin Ayers CDs, which use CDS 300. I was able to extract all of the audio info intact (no clicks!) using Missing Media Media Burner, but the time info was incorre...

I really think that the method I proposed above would be the least troublesome, Krabapple. From what I understand, all wave editors can only approximate correcting the 10dB high end boost of pre-emphasis; one would just be screwing up the EQ if he/she went the wave editor route. The pre-emphasis fla...
