There's basically two masterings and three editions. The original edition is an old school box set: long box dimensions in terms of length and width, it's an actual box with three separate jewel cases for each disc. The next two editions sprung out of the 1999/2000 remasters. One's a shrunken-down v...

What about the London Calling deluxe edition from a couple years back? Does the album disc in that set just use a clone of the remaster? IMHO, I always thought the original London Calling disc sucked. There were a lot of dropouts on it if I recall correctly. The remaster sounds fine to me from that...

Daltrey always complained that his vocals were too low in the mix. So the remix attempted to address that, I guess. I presume it's Townshend-approved. Yeah, the remix addresses that. From a sound quality perspective, the original mix is better and best heard on the MFSL gold discs. The remix doesn'...

Iggy Pop's 1997 remix of "Search & Destroy"

Just in case anyone's curious, the Rhino punk box set, No Thank! , has a much better mastering of this track. I think a lot of compression's built into the mix, but when Iggy Pop supervised the 1997 reissue of Raw Power , he obviously asked for a LOT more at the mastering stage. He talks about this ...

I've been buying up old Clash CD's because after buying the old box set from 1991, it's clear the remasters suck. It's all a little confusing, but it breaks down like this: The old CD's are all right, but some of them don't sound like the original master tapes. This is especially true of the U.S. ve...

Awesome, those links were kind of tiny (at least on my browser) so I didn't see them.

No, I didn't hear them, but trawling through the web, the unanimous opinion seems to be they are different, so I figured it was a safe bet that they were.

Buffalo Springfield Again - mono mix - on a KDX server(?)

Anyone know what a KDX server is and how to access it? This guy ripped the mono mix of Buffalo Springfield Again and put it up there: http://freqazoidiac.blogspot.com/2007/09/buffalo-springfield-again-dj-mono-promo.html To recap, the mono mix for this has never been issued. It's THE mix, the one the...

HOLY @#$#@ - Velvets and Modern Lovers

From a Libertines forum: The Gymnasium, NYC I'm not into VU bootlegs really, but apparently this is a big deal. It's the ONLY available live stuff from 1967 and has only become available in literally the last two days. Recorded just after the release of The Velvet Underground And Nico and featuring ...

Haha, awesome! It's kinda cool picking up the paper and saying, "Hey! My friend(s) wrote that!"

As it says on the YouTube page, the video was done by Emily Wood - she did it in conjunction with the story's two writers, but not in collaboration with them, hence no credit on the print side.

What five words would you use to describe Dems or GOPers?

A friend of mine put this together for the AP, and it got picked up by ABC News, among other places. She's going to do a follow-up story, which will include comments posted on the YouTube page hosting the video. Basically, she wants you to describe Democrats or Republicans in five words. SO....if yo...

For some reason, Wikipedia tags this as the "intended tracklist," but I have my doubts - it's the track order for the two discs of demos on the Lifehouse Chronicles box set, but I'm not sure Pete would've made this the final order. Having said that, it still works very well, even with &quo...

Hey, is the "Mary" demo on Lifehouse Chronicles (the multi-disc box set Townshend sold through his website) the same performance/recording as the one on Scoop ? By sheer luck, I actually found a copy of Disc 1 of that box set in a pile of coasters. Don't have the other discs, but regardles...

Flipping through the songs I've got loaded on iTunes, I boiled it down to 20 songs. Really a personal compilation rather than an attempt at something 'definitive,' I followed 5 basic guidelines. 1) Has to be a Who performance, no solo demos. 2) Has to be a studio recordings. 3) Has to be a Who origi...

British and Dutch police have shut down one of the world's biggest sources of illegally-downloaded music. A flat on Teesside and several properties in Amsterdam were raided as part of an Interpol investigation into the members-only website OiNK. The UK-run site has leaked 60 major pre-release albums...
