The background harmonies in the verses and the lead vocal doubling in the choruses (sounds like it may be Rasa Davies as it doesn't sound like Dave) are neat to hear. Also the little guitar figure at the end which doesn't fade out like the official release. I could hear another acoustic guitar in th...

What is this "forum approved" Beatlemania of which you speak? I would like to hear it of course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatlemania!_With_the_Beatles Sometime in the '70s it was finally issued in stereo on the purple Capitol label. Only problem is there are two versions - one wide a...

Years ago, I traded in Sticky Fingers on CBS for the remaster. The CBS had lots of detail in the highs but little bass as far as I can remember. The Virgin sounded (and sounds) way better. I've heard about some prefer the CBS Exile but the remaster is heard to beat. I traded in that one too (the CBS...

Is "Sympathy" the only BB track that has a genuine mono mix? I have a needle drop but I haven't listened to it in ages and honestly can't remember if there were any major differences. On the the needle drop I have Sympathy indeed sounds like the only dedicated mono mix. The other tracks s...

"Why?" on the box set, although narrowed somewhat, sounds better to me than the bonus track on 5D. Overall, though I prefer the reissues of the first four (I don't have any of the subsequent ones; why mess with perfection? ) than the equivalent tracks on the box. Much as I admire the...

I don't know that there are any mix differences. I haven't sat down any really compared the mixes, just the sound, but I haven't noticed any mix differences either.

BTW, even though it's not a real mix, I wouldn't mind a stereo reissue of the first album, mastered straight from the original twin-track work parts. Yeah, I know I complained about Rubber Soul , but I think losing a good deal of echo, not to mention EQ, compression, a generational loss, etc. compe...

What is your reason not to use the proper mono mix? The (true) stereo mix is on the Great Lost Kinks bootleg, but I don't remember how the sound quality is.

I haven't heard the bootleg, but the stereo mix on the GLKA vinyl is superb-sounding.

Pet Sounds should've been kept to the box set, one stereo/mono CD, and the occasional boutique issue like DCC's gold CD. That would've been perfect. And it's still in my top 10 of all-time. :? Isn't that the way it is now apart from the first CD issue? Have there been other issues of Pet Sounds apa...

The audience for Pet Sounds was always there, but it sure took awhile for everything to align. The Brits loved it, a cult following grew through the 1970's, so much that Dave Marsh (the politically liberal but musically conservative rock critic) started trashing it in the Rolling Stone Album Guide ...

Well, yes. I think the idea is that past URT 4 or so, nothing new is originated source-wise from TSP/TGP. I think that take had already been on UM3. What's TSP/TGP? UM3 is Unsurpassed Masters 3, right? I found the URT series first, and ended up getting the first 6 volumes. Since I had all these tra...
