There's a big volume drop out - it's too long for a tape fault - in "Sweet Virginia" on the CBS Exile - unforgivable!

Re: Take No Prisoners. It seems to be hit or miss on most tracks. I have my discs packed up right now so I can't answer for certain, but I believe the track "Leave Me Alone" is where the effect is greatest. ...and that's the track where they only used one of the two dummy heads to record ...

"Street Hassle", "Take No Prisoners Live" and "The Bells" were all recorded binaurally - i.e with a Neumann dummy head and are meant to be heard over headphones. You may notice SBS (Stereo Binaural Sound) on the covers. The sound is not as successfully startling as the ...

King Crimson 1969 - 1975 FAQ

I've just updated this slightly. I hope it is of interest to some people here. King Crimson FAQ In response to Luke and David's challenge, I have decided to try and put together a limited King Crimson FAQ. The albums compared are: 1. In The Court Of The Crimson King (An Observation By King Crimson) ...

The DE of Disraeli Gears is actually painful to listen to up loud - Eric Clapton's guitar is extremely peaky compared with the MFSL. Not so obvious on headphones, but quite so on speakers.

Luke,
have you cleaned all the heads?
Wear of the heads will do this also, as well as uneven tension across the tape width.
I'm not an expert however. Maybe a professional check could be in order?

The first Ryko seies was with the aluminium layer to the centre hole (ie as per the standard PDO pressings of the time). The Low I got had the aluminium layer finishing before the centre hole (as is standard practice now).

I had an aluminium Ryko copy of "Low" with 80142 as the catalogue number in the "dead wax" (leading with an 8 as per the other AU20 series CDs) rather than leading with a 1 as seen with the other standard aluminium Bowie Ryko releases. It had 1 on the case inserts however. This one may well have bee...

Paul Hester(drummer Split Enz, Crowded House) R.I.P

Paul Hester has apparently committed suicide. Why are the funniest ones often hiding a crippling depression? Very sad.

See if you can get hold of the b**tleg of the unfutzed with tapes to hear the show with tape hiss, clicks etc. The whole concert is great.

Krab, that release was one of the first to show that there were high fidelity JHE live tapes in existence. It was released in 2 versions on CD - the earlier Mediamotion UK release and the later Reprise US with an extra track (Foxy Lady). The sound on that CD wasn't very good - nearly mono with lots ...

..and isn't it a great album. I especially like Starless - the middle section where Bill Bruford goes berserk is superb. It sounds better than I remember the Island UK vinyl also.

Luke,
I know this sounds like a cop out, but all of those quotes were not in the original text - ie added by Graeme. If you would like a copy of the original text (which is quite a large word document), please feel free to email me for a return address

Check out this page (mostly written by me, but the bit about vinyl being crappy was added by Graeme Pattingale) regarding the Cream remasters.
