Re: Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

Sean Murdock wrote:Why is anyone fretting about "early" mono CDs, when the 2011 deluxes have gotten nothing but raves across the board?

Because the "early" CD's are infinitely better. Try listening to them, dumbass.

Re: Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

Just had another listen to the "arthur" deluxe edition and man, does it suck. People actually prefer these to PRT's?

Re: Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

Oh yeah, you can learn good stuff there. It just seems like forum consensus doesn't make sense any more. The new Neil Young, which sounds fantastic to my ears, is getting slammed for being from "crappy sources" (ie, a DAT of a board mix). Meanwhile these mediocre Kinks reissues are the gre...

Re: Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

Man, the mastering on these Kinks deluxes suck ass. All it needs it a layer of noise reduction and we're in Jon Astley territory. Meanwhile, the intense scrotum licking continues unabated.

I can't believe the endless love these are getting on SHTV...people saying they sound better than the PRT's...what a load of b.s.

Re: Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

Do you have originals, JWB? I'd be curious how the credits are exactly listed? Thanks! You were right about the first four Monkees albums. It lists Sandoval, Hersch & Inglot. However, the Birds/Bees & Head deluxes (which are arguably worse) list only Hersch & Sandoval, as do the Kinks d...

Re: Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

Dan Hersch is responsible for the Monkees & Kinks deluxes...not Bill Inglot. I find Hersch's mastering style to be the antithesis of what the Hoffman board is supposed to stand for. Harsh, bright EQ & a very generous dose of compression. The only thing missing is noise reduction. But nobody ...

Everybody line up to blow Andrew Sandoval

If Bob Ludwig mastered these horrible Monkees and Kinks deluxe editions, with the extreme brightness and heavy compression that smears the stereo image, do you think he would get called out? Or would he get the patented SHTV ball massage like Sandoval does?

Re: New ATMP remaster available on vinyl, 24/96 download

Beyond the AHDN fuck-up and the messed up German track (can't remember which one), they did an awesome job for a catalog this large. I compared them all closely to the "Blue Box" pressings and most of them sound damn near identical, ususally with a slightly wider soundstage. (AHDN is an ex...

Re: New ATMP remaster available on vinyl, 24/96 download

I think the Beatles/Lennon/Badfinger remasters are beyond excellent, so I'm hopeful.

What don't you like about the Beatles remasters Luke? They're a little heavy in the upper mids (so is the original UK vinyl) but otherwise they're superb.

Re: Beatles Capitol Boxes

OK I folded down the stereo LMD in the Capitol box and compared it to the mono and they were nearly identical. The Ebbetts mono LP sounds like a fold-down as well. So I was wrong.

I'm gonna grab the Ebbetts Early Beatles and look into this further.

Re: Beatles Capitol Boxes

I was just curious if it was certain because the mono Early Beatles is supposed to have two true mono tracks amidst the fold-downs. I believe Help! is the only album that is a fold-down all the way through.

So Early Beatles & Help are digital fold-downs and the rest are from tape?
